Video of London Cyclocross League Round 15

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

There aren’t enough cyclocross videos on Vimeo, which features much higher video quality than YouTube. There are a few clips every week, but most of them are of the “hey, look at my buddies riding through the really deep puddle” variety.

This video of the London Cyclocross League Race last weekend at Herme Hill Velodrome, however, is pretty good. It features some exciting, although admittedly amateur, racing action, and the course and weather are about as good as you could ask for in a local race.

Helmet Cam Video of 2009 Cyclocross World Masters Course

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Here’s a helmet cam video of the course for the 2009 Cyclocross World Masters Championships, which was contested last weekend in Mol, Belgium. Check out the length of that sand section.

And congratulation to the maker of this video, James Melville of Scotland, who I see finished 40th in the 1965-1969 category.

Cyclocross on World Business News Program

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

World Business just did a story on the economics of cyclocross. Nothing earth shattering, but it does include some good race footage. Mostly from the Pijnacker World Cup race, I believe.

2009 Spanish National Cyclocross Championships Video

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Here’s a late-breaking European championship video, from the Elite Men’s race in Spain on January 10. The production value on this one is pretty high, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

2009 European National Cyclocross Championships Videos

January 13th, 2009 · No Comments

December 10-11 was national championship weekend in Europe, with big races in Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, England, Italy, and Switzerland. Here are the videos that are up so far:

Dutch National Championship

Here we see the now urinary-tract-infection-free Lars Boom hold off a determined pursuit by AA Drink teammates Thijs Al and Richard Groenendaal. Is it just me, or do those AA Drink kits look a little like a cross between a paramedic’s wet suit and something stolen from a collection of early Cirque du Soleil costumes?

.

Belgian National Championship

Here’s a much shorter highlight video from the race for the prestigious Belgian national champion’s jersey, successfully defended by Swen Nys.

.

French National Championship

Here’s a French TV news report on their race, including the juniors and women.

.

British National Championship

Now we’re leaving the realm of the professionally filmed and televised races, but here’s a nicely done home video (in two parts) of the British national championship at Peel Park in Bradford.

.

Let me know in the comments or via email if you have seen video out there of any of the other races.

Video of Last Week’s UCI World Cup Cyclocross Race in Nommay, France

December 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Between the holidays and all of the excitement about the “thrilla in vanilla“, I totally missed last week’s UCI World Cup race in Nommay, France. Here’s a video of the final lap. It comes down to a sprint, so I won’t tell you who wins, just in case you haven’t already heard.

Unfortunately, I can’t find any good video of the women’s race, which was won by American Katie Compton (her second World Cup victory in a row). Let me know if you’ve seen anything out there.

Special Holiday Post - Guitar Hero on a Bike

December 26th, 2008 · No Comments

This isn’t really a cyclocross video, but anyone who gave or received Guitar Hero for Christmas yesterday might like it. Also, the makers of this video definitely capture the spirit of cyclocross (West Coast cyclocross, anyway) with their willingness to put nearly immeasurable time and energy into an endeavor that most “normal” people consider a rather bizarre waste of time.

The U.S. Cyclocross Nationals Fight Video is Now Online

December 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

As a follow up to my earlier post about the fight at the USA Cycling 2008 Cyclocross National Championships in Kansas City, here is the (much anticipated) video just posted by Cyclofile’s Sam Smith of the brawl between Jonathan Page’s brother-in-law and Cale “I’m not a Jonathan Page Hater” McAninch.

2008 U.S. National Cyclocross Championships Videos

December 20th, 2008 · No Comments

Update: The KCCX cyclocross fight video is now online.

It’s been almost a week since the USA Cycling 2008 Cyclocross National Championships in Kansas City, and the video pickings are still slimmer than Paris Hilton after a week-long Ex-Lax binge. I have managed to cull out a few interesting clips, which are posted below, but I’m still waiting for the good stuff. DH Productions produced a great video last year, the Eight-Ball Diaries, but I’m afraid they only do that if Tim Johnson wins, and he finished 5th this year. Surely someone is going to put together a good overview of the elite race, with high production value and a decent soundtrack. Let me know if you see one before I do.

The video everyone is really waiting for however, isn’t of the race at all. It’s of the dust-up/scuffle/brawl/donnybrook between Jonathan Page’s brother-in-law and Cale “I am not a Page Hater” McAninch, who was apparently, in fact, loudly hating on Page during a post race interview. A shoving match ensued, Page’s sister also got in on the action, and the Richard Sachs Team’s bikes were trampled, leading to threats of legal action from Sachs himself.
